Game of Thrones has always delivered when it comes to each season’s penultimate episode. ‘The Dance of Dragons’ had some great moments and some truly heartbreaking ones as well, but does it measure up to previous episode 9’s. Here are my thoughts on the latest episode. Spoilers will follow.

Without trying to sound like too much of a cliche’ the best way to describe this episode is ‘Winter is here’. Episode 8 subverts our usual expectation that Episode 9 of each season is the explosive episode that keeps everyone on the edge of their seat. In fact the last fifteen minutes of ‘Hardhome’ may be one of the greatest ends to episode yet. But that’s not to say it made this episode, in fact we got a lot of brilliant moments throughout, so here is a look at the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

The Gift was probably the best episode of this season (so far). Season 5 has been a slow one in comparison to other seasons, mostly because a lot of characters have been split up and spread out. Therefore the previous episodes have been about manoeuvring our characters and setting up the rest of the series. The Gift shows that the pay-off is worth the wait.
